Dear YMCA Scouts and Jungschar: Join the YMCA Europe Festival!
REAL LIFE is the theme of the second YMCA Europe Festival in Prague, where also scouts and Jungschars are invited to take part. At the first festival in 2003 we had Scouting and Jungschar activities from five countries; we hope that we will manage to at least double this in 2008!
Even though the festival is not a jamboree or a traditional camp, it is a place for scouting! At the same time, all activities arranged by the ESG are of course open to all participants at the festival, as all other activities will be open to scouts and jungschars! So the Festival is both a place for us to show our program to others, and to learn more about the activities of the other members of the YMCA family.
The festival is also a very good place to connect and have new international contacts. We will focus not only on activities, but on integration, making meeting places for people and possibilities for scouting groups to make international friendship.
Scouts and Jungschars activities during the festival will be organized by the ESG, the program group for Scouting and Jungschar within YMCA Europe. We will in this letter introduce our plans for the festival. We hope both to motivate scouts and jungschar groups to take part in the festival, and also to give your contributions to the festival! If our plans are going to be real life in August next year, we need your cooperation! The ESG committee is coordinating the activities, but we need contacts with persons willing to work together with us. Do you want do be one of them, or do you have ideas for the scouting and jungschar activities? Please contact the leader of ESG: Jo Edvardsen, Norway: jo-e<at>online.no – tel +47 930 87 017.
You're warmly invited to be a part of the Festival!

Presentation of ESG and YMCA Scouting and Jungschar
The scouting and jungschar activities will be concentrated in our corner of the global village/EXPO-area in the festival park. We will get one stall in the “Global Village”/EXPO area with an info-wall 2x3 m. We shall have brochures, flyers, posters, other material etc. but also a little activity. It was also suggested to offer gummy bears for those eager enough to take part to the activity. There will be a very short presentation about the ESG and leaflets about the events to come, for example the next seminar and Jamboree. We planned to cover the whole wall with scouting uniforms and scarves. We will need hosts to represent us by our info-wall.
ESG activities in the Global village/EXPO
These activities will be open for everyone, just “drop-in” and join. The activities open after the morning show and close before the evening program starts. (Responsible country for organizing is mentioned, other may take part!)
·Sauna (Finland)
·LunaPark (Norway)
·A tent church (Switzerland/Germany)
·Activities for the tent church (Germany)
·A tent café for the leaders (Switzerland)
Workshops
We are planning with five different categories of workshops; some of the workshops will be arranged in cooperation with the EOTN, the program group for Outdoor training. The workshops will have the same head lines every day, but the activities may differ as different people are responsible (example: there will be one workshop with cooking every day, but we will make different meals). It will be possible to take part in the same workshop more than once. The workshops are held outside and they are for up to 30 people. We want to offer active seminars with doing instead of listening. We will concentrate to the youngest age group (13-17 years), but have them open for all age groups. Workshops are held daily on 13.00-15.00 and 16.30-18.30.
Hariolf Schenk, Germany, h@riolf.de will be the contact person for ESG´s workshops. If you have ideas for workshop activities, would like to be responsible for one workshop, or just be assistant at the workshops, please contact Hariolf.
1)Handicrafts (Knots …)
2)Camp fire songs and games (learning and sharing)
3)Cooking outside
4)Pioneering,(building structures, the ScoutVillage, tower of poles)
5)Sports (Archery, indiaca, lacrosse, ultimate Frisbee)
The ESG Annual meeting is organized as a workshop for leaders on Wednesday 6th.
Late night programme
Late night programmes serve as meeting points for all scouts and jungschars during the festival.
On Monday evening we will organize a big campfire, where all ESG members are invited. Idea is to get participants all over the Europe together and connected in the very beginning of the festival. The program of this campfire should be carefully planned beforehand.
On Tuesday there will be a smaller campfire with open stage for anyone willing to prepare some program. We need to have a person whose responsibility is to take care of the structure of the program and introduce the performers in appropriate order. Voluntary performers have to announce their show beforehand in the Global Village.
Wednesday is the worship night. The idea is to have as many different styles of services instead of the common worship on the big stage. Our idea is to prepare a candle path with aphorisms. Anyone willing can walk the path through when he feels comfortable, alone or with company, after the services. The candle path will start from a campfire. This one will be more peaceful, with just singing, prayers and sharing a moment together.
On Thursday there will probably be a night game instead of the campfire.
Main stage
We will try to offer a short (3-5 min) program every day: “Today’s scout”, with typical scouting/jungschar songs or games, letting all participants joining in. If you have ideas for main stage activities, please contact the ESG!
City action day
Our idea is a scouts and jungschar competition with stations (with activity tasks to solve for the teams) around in the city centre, with a special badge as reward. We will try to arrange this in cooperation with the EOTN.
